John Stubbs, CIM
Founder, Diligence Consulting

John Stubbs founded Diligence Consulting in 2024 to bring his decades of industry insight to a new generation of investment professionals and leaders. His career in financial services began in the 1980s as an Investment Professional, and evolved over 36 years into senior roles as a Senior Practice Consultant, Regional Director, and Branch Manager.

Over his 36 years in the financial services industry, John soon realized what he really enjoyed and cared about was helping Advisors get better — taking their practice to the next level — from good to great. That is still his passion.

John’s work is guided by his five core values — Family, Ethics, Loyalty, Stability and Education.

Where Insight Meets Execution

Throughout his journey, John witnessed firsthand the evolution of the investment industry - shifting technologies, changing investor expectations, the growing complexity of products and strategies and the ever increasing regulatory requirements.  Amid all that change, one truth remained: great advisors grow from the inside out.

John brings a layered and deeply informed perspective to his consulting work, grounded in decades of experience across the advisory, asset management, and practice consulting sides of the investment industry.

CIM® Designation

John holds the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®) designation, reflecting his advanced expertise in portfolio strategy, risk management, and discretionary investment oversight.

Behavioural Finance

He has focused on behavioural finance, turning investor psychology into advisor strategy. His insight into the biases behind investor decisions helps advisors guide clients with greater empathy and clarity. By applying behavioural insight, he helps advisors build stronger relationships and deliver more personalized advice.

Built From the Ground Up

He built his advisory practice from the ground up, the old-fashioned way — through disciplined cold calling. On the buy side at Brandes, he visited nearly every office in Western Canada, gaining a front-row view of the industry’s best practices. At RGMP and TD Wealth, he refined his skills in practice consulting and branch management with a focus on business planning, marketing, compliance and cultivating branch culture.

Building Advisors, Practices and Branches

Some of John’s most rewarding career moments came not from market victories or product wins, but from the success of others — watching advisors become leaders, practices become thriving businesses, and branches become high-performing hubs of culture and growth. His strength lies in identifying potential and helping people cultivate it, step by step.

John has consistently helped create these outcomes.

Successful advisors. Growing practices. Thriving branches.

Uncovering the “Why”

Over time, John’s approach became more purpose-driven. He found himself less focused on what advisors were doing and more attuned to why they were doing it. He began guiding individuals and teams not just toward tactical results, but toward clarity, confidence, and alignment with their purpose.

Through Diligence Consulting, John now offers targeted expertise in four key areas:

Talent Acquisition

Advisor Education & Support
